My survey of songs in Gather 3rd edition that I have not covered already on my blog, has turned up some Tony Alonso songs that I had not come across, which is always a joy. Of the two shining GIA hopes of the 2000s, it seems Alonso stayed and Mahler went off to do musicals. Alonso is hopefully coming to Australia next year if there is enough interest. Get on to your local worthies and make sure they tell the APMN he is most welcome.
It is a song for mission and ministry, as well as a suggestion for Christ the King, a notoriously difficult liturgy for which to find music. It is has a musical hook of two triplets across a 3/4 bar to keep you engaged. The guitar sheet music has three part harmony for the refrain.
The sheet music is at GIA and the text on page nine of this booklet. It is based on Matthew 25: 24-41. This passage always reminds of a long deceased patient of mine who despite the burden of mental illness, had an open heart and had a ministry to problems gamblers who had wound up in prison. She made her own decision to ignore my advice that she risked her own health with that sort of volunteering. She used to allow people down on their luck to stay with her so she could care for them, which usually led to her being robbed. I wrote a prescription for her once that simply read, “Don’t take in any more strays”. She is one very few people I have met that I am certain are in whatever heaven is.
