This is a very lyrical ballad for Lent by Lori True. The verses are just different enough to need a cantor, but the refrain is nicely singable. She provides a harmony line in the verse if you are after a choir piece.
The sheet music can be purchased at GIA where the text is in their preview.
I really like this song! As a second grade teacher I spend much of the year focusing on First Confession and First Communion. Many of the songs you’ve done lately in the “Lent” section of Gather (including this one) are ones that I use with my class. Due to COVID, we’re being more cautious about doing a lot of singing, but I still play the songs while they work. Some other yearly favorites are Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone), Purify My Heart (Refiner’s Fire), Return to God by Marty Haugen, and Sacred Silence.
I’m always looking for new songs to use, which is what originally brought me to your blog. One new one I found last year is Whiter Than Snow by Josh Blakesley. The title is based on verse 7 of Psalm 51: “Wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.” It works perfectly with our North American climate at this time of year, and for the past week, my kids asked me to play it every day (some days more than once). It’s definitely more suited for a retreat or concert situation than anything liturgical or congregational. Attempting to sing along with it is about impossible with my vocal range, but I do my best because the kids love it. There doesn’t appear to be any sheet music available, but OCP sells the album it’s on (plus it’s on YouTube). https://www.ocp.org/en-us/products/30101036/free-cd
Thanks for the tip, Ryan. I’d call that a fine slow burn P&W song.

Our summer weather is currently hot and humid and very much lacking snow, which is why I’m very slowly relocating a long way south to Tasmania, where it isn’t.
I can’t imagine life as a teacher with Covid in the US. Our cases here are almost all people coming back to Australia and found while in quarantine and we are mostly doing OK. The worst thing is that our states keep closing the borders to each other if any cases happen, so we can’t go to Tasmania at the moment after one local case was found a couple of weeks ago in Brisbane.
I hope you keep well.
cheers
Geoff
