This is another song from the miscellaneous pile of which I have very little recollection. It was written by Gary Ault and performed by the Dameans.
The song is an OCP song but the link there is dead. This is a folky version that is nice, but this is an outstanding version done as a piano ballad, even getting an endorsement from the songwriter!
REFRAIN Speak, Lord, I’m listening Plant your word down deep in me. Speak, Lord, I’m listening Please show me the way. 1. Sometimes my heart is slow to follow you;
Touch me to hear and understand; And I’m told the things you promise; And I hope they all come true; And I know what waits for those who wait; And put their trust in You. 2. Sometimes I stumble on my way to you;
Stretch out again, your healing hand; And I’m told the things you promise; And I hope they all come true; And I know what waits for those who wait; And put their trust in You.

In my previous parish this song was one of my favourites and regularly used. The folky version you link to is in the style originally performed by the Dameans though the new arrangement has different harmonies. The piano version is stunning to listen to, but not easy to sing with. As an aside, the song is actually published by Damean Music is licensed to other publishers. Unfortunately, apart from the songs in the US GIA and OCP hymnals, their original editions appear to be no longer in print.
Off-topic, I’ve been coming to your site regularly since accidentally finding it a few weeks ago and think it’s fantastic that you’re making all your hard work available to others. For those congregations who don’t have musicians, but like to sing, you are providing a valuable resource.
A site you might consider adding to your Church Music list to the right is http://www.smallchurchmusic.com which provides free organ music downloads for traditional hymns or 20c each for others. It originates in Perth, W.A. You won’t find many contemporary Catholic hymns there, but like this site, its a useful resource.
Once again, thanks.
Whoops! As you already have a Chris as a regular contributor I’ll change my moniker to Chris W for any future comments.
Thank you! Does anyone know where to get the sheet music for this?
Hi,
I have a hymn of Gary Ault’s that I have been using for nearly thirty years called…’The Peace of the Lord’. I would like to buy a copy and put the publishing info on our slides when we sing it but I can’t find it anywhere. I don’t suppose you know where I could find it? In the absence of any information we have been putting down one of his other works and listing this instead in our reporting.
G’Day Peta,
One Licence give this information, which should be OK for reporting purposes:
Peace of the Lord (Peace Song) #87694
Type: Words and Music; First Line: May the peace of the Lord be with you
Contributors: Gary Ault
Text: © 1993, GIA/Damean Music
GIA sell the sheet music in this inexpensive collection:

cheers
Geoff
How can I get a copy of this song with words and music?
G’Day David
I can’t find it for sale anywhere.
It has been posted on the internet elsewhere so a Google search should find it.
