Another week, another church… I gave one more church a try in my new town. This one was traditional, but they used a piano. It sounded like the pianist was an organist because she never sustained anything. The endings of all the songs were very awkward. They just sort of dropped off. They use the Ignatius Pew Missal, an extremely traditional resource. I skimmed the hymns section and found maybe 6 or 7 from a modern composer (Schutte, Haas, etc.). Anyway, here’s what we (really just the cantor and a handful of people in the pews) sang.
Gathering: All People That on Earth Do Dwell (Kethe; OLD HUNDREDTH)
Mass Setting: Mass of St. Francis (Buchholz)
Psalm 51: I Will Rise and Go to My Father (Weber chant)
Gifts: There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy (Faber; IN BABILONE)
Communion: O Lord, I Am Not Worthy (Anon.; NON DIGNUS)
Closing: Lift High the Cross (Kitchin/Newbolt; CRUCIFER)
Doesn’t sound a good start there.
