Hello. Have been following your blog for a few years now, looking for guidance for song choices at my parish. I am always looking for more contemporary options. Matt Maher has become a favourite – we use All the people said Amen and Lord I need you, as has Rob Galea’s music. We are presenting a family Mass on Christmas Eve, so we keep looking for options to use alongside the regular carols. I found “Mary, did you know” a version by Pentatonix, and I plan to use this as a bridge between the carols we play before Mass and the Mass itself. I thought that if you didn’t know this song you might be interested to look it up.
Very best Christmas blessing to you and your loved ones, Brendan
Thanks, Brendan, I’ll certainly have a look at it.

I don’t think they like it much, Mary.

I know the gospel acclamation is a very minor part of the Mass, but I thought I’d comment that we’ve also been using Barbara Bridge’s Christmas Season Gospel Acclamation this year and found it excellent. Adapted from the traditional Sussex Carol, the melody of the acclamation is joyful and easy for the congregation to pick up; and each chanted verse ends with an additional alleluia or two. Unusually for gospel acclamations, most verses have different melodies – more work to learn, but works well with the different text lengths and contexts. A minor problem – due to my limited vocal range, I transposed it down a step.
