Last week I mentioned trend toward going more P&W with our music. Well, today we used the organ (for the first time in forever at the Mass I attend) on the closing hymn…
Gathering: Gather Us In (Haugen)
Mass Parts: Mass of St. Therese (Griffin)
Psalm: I Will Sing (Haas)
Gifts: The Summons (Bell)
Communion: You Are Near (Schutte)
Loving and Forgiving (Soper)
Closing: The Spirit Sends Us Forth (Dufner; AZMON)
G’Day Ryan
I’m glad the organ is functional. Ours hadn’t been used much for years and was apparently untunable (a 1/4 note flat!) so it disappeared recently. We mostly use piano unless I’m playing and then that’s just my travel Maton acoustic guitar miked up. I used to use my 12 string electric a lot but my hands are old and crave comfort.
I wonder if your music director got push back on the P&W heavy liturgy or maybe a different team selected the music.
On a happy note, Delores Dufner turns 80 this month.
cheers
Geoff
opening: O God, Beyond all Praising (Perry; thaxted)
offertory: Dwelling Place (Foley)
communion: Love Goes On (Farrell), O Sacrament Most Holy (fulda)
closing: God, We Praise You (nettleton)
Hi Geoff
just to let you know we’ve added a blog to our website, please take a look if you’re interested.
The latest one is a New Testament mnemonic for anyone who has to try and keep the books in their right order in their head https://www.musicformass.blog/2019/02/06/i-mneed-a-mnemonic-for-the-new-testament/
Hope all is going well and you’re getting a bit of a break
