Lord, Send Out Your Spirit

This setting by Joe Zsigray is definitely Ps 104. We’ve only ever used the chorus as a response but the verses are fine, just with different tunes and probably best for a cantor. We’ve been doing too slowly; it fairly rockets along at 180 according to the songwriter. You can buy it from OCP here. This church  does it as the speed we do it and that is too slow, but the cantor does very well.

My backing is at the set speed.

Refrain

Lord send out your spirit
And renew the face of the earth.
Lord send out your spirit
And renew the face of the earth.

Verse 1
Bless the Lord, oh my soul.
Oh Lord, my God, You are great indeed.
How manifold are Your works, oh Lord!
The earth is full of your creatures.

Refrain

Verse 2
If you take away their breath, oh Lord,
They die and return to their dust.
When You send forth Your Spirit they live.
You renew the face of the earth.

Refrain

Verse 3
May the glory of the Lord
Endure forever, and may the Lord
Be glad in His work.
Pleasing to Him be my theme,
For I rejoice in the Lord.

Refrain

Thanks so much….this has been running around in my head for weeks and I want to do it for Pentecost. Used to have guitar copy, but it has vanished. Wish OCP would republish.

Interesting, my parish at home has known this one “forever”, and seems to cope well with the rhythm, challenging though it looks.

I got wondering about Joe Zsigray, though, and whether his works have been republished. Discovered that he died only a few months ago, so I’ve done a write-up on him: http://www.godsongs.net/2014/06/joe-zsigray.html. I’m not familiar with his other work, but do think a lot of Lord Send out Your Spirit – which isn’t something I can say for a lot of material from the 1970s.

I guess that since his works are now out of print, copyright ownership will revert back to him, and now to his estate. Hopefully someone might have the interest to get them re-printed.

    Hi,
Anyone has the music sheet for this song that you can share? I’m preparing the songs for our parish’s confirmation mass this Saturday. I can’t find the music sheet for this song.

    Thank you for your help.
