Leonard E (“Lenny”) Smith has been in touch over the years and has kindly sent me some of his sheet music. He has led a long and fascinating life (at least according Wikipedia!) and has written a bona fide hit hymn “Our God Reigns” which I have blogged a couple of times including here.
I told him I mainly do Australian music these days, but I since I do look at OCP and GIA releases at times, I’ll make him an honorary Australian for the duration and look at a few of his titles. I’m not sure if they fit liturgies as such, but we shall see.
I’ll start with this one that seems like a long poem of affirmation set to music.
He has provided a link to the sheet music.
I made a reasonably reflective BIAB backing for this one.
1 I am the apple of my Father’s eye.
I am the object of His love.
I am the city set upon a hill.
I am a moonbeam from above.
I am enjoying my inheritance.
I am the head and not the tail.
I am alive with Christ yet crucified.
I am alive beyond the veil.
Chorus
I am a well-watered garden.
I am the Bride of Christ.
I am the salt of the whole earth.
I am the King’s delight.
2 I am the healthy vine that’s bearing fruit.
I am the temple where you dwell.
I am complete in you and reconciled.
I am like water from the well.
I am a child of God, beloved of God.
I am a steward of great wealth.
I am forgiven all my trespassers.
I am endowed with peace and health.
Chorus© 2006 New Jerusalem Music
3 I am empowered to succeed in life.
I am securely in his hand.
I am fulfilling all my destiny.
I am essential to his plan.
I am protected by angelic hosts.
I am attuned to hear his voice.
I am in favour with both God and Man.
I am so blessed to be his choice.
