Holy Spirit of the Great South Land

This is Patricia Smith‘s contribution to Willow’s new collection, Pilgrims of Hope. She is one of the songwriters, like Peter Grant, David MacGregor and Erica Marshall, who would have been more well known in Australia if circumstances would have allowed for an As One Voice Vol 3.

This song is an obvious choice for Pentecost if you come from the “Great South Land”, and I am always keen on anything that is not Eurocentric nor Americocentric in liturgy. It is a reflective gem.

Pilgrims of Hope can be purchased in various bundles at Willow.

Refrain

Come, Spirit, come.
Come, Holy Spirit of the Great South Land.
Come, fill our hearts with the fire of your love,
And come, Spirit, come.

1 Bless and unite all your people, Lord
And guide us as we seek to do your will.
Come, Spirit, come.

Refrain

2 Give us the courage to speak the truth
With love for one another, trusting you.
Come, Spirit, come.

Refrain

3 Give us the grace to know you,
Your presence in our midst and in our world.
Come, Spirit, come.

Refrain

4 Open our hearts to listen,
To know and understand your will for us.
Come, Spirit, come.

Refrain

Come, Spirit, come. (repeat ad lib)
