This hymn was sung at Ryan’s parish recently and it is another one I’d never heard of before.
You can get the text and sheet music at Hymnary because Hope Publishing is wonderful and will allow you to make one copy of the music. The text is by Fred Pratt Green and the tune, ABBOT’S LEIGH, is by Cyril V. Taylor.
This song almost has more chords than notes, but this is a simple organ backing.
This isn’t a great recording but don’t you wish your church had a trombone choir?
More trombones:
Nice ordinary church assemblies:
I’m not sure I can think of another song that talks about the different church furniture. When we learned this one about 5 years ago, I remember thinking how odd it seemed to sing about “table, font, and pulpit” and how “the cross has central place.” It’s kind of a nice reminder that we’re not in an ordinary building, but in a church with symbols all around in the things we put in it.
