This another song I don’t look forward to playing. I’m sure there is a Village People song that sounds a bit like it (?Go West), although this was probably written first. You can hear Henry Smith himself sing it here or a much schmaltzier one here. You can read more about the song in this book excerpt at Google.
It can be purchased for download at musicnotes.
My backing is at 91bpm.
Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks unto the Holy One
Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son
Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks unto the Holy One
Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His SonAnd now let the weak say, “I am strong”
Let the poor say, “I am rich
Because of what the Lord has done for us”And now let the weak say, “I am strong”
Let the poor say, “I am rich
Because of what the Lord has done for us”(Rpt whole song)
Give thanks

Another experiment with VST instruments:
Hi there, I’ve been saying for years that these songs sound the exact same! When I first heard the Pet Shop Boys’ version in the mid 90s it instantly reminded me of this song! I wonder which one came first!
G’Day Susan
Go West wasn’t released until 1979 so I don’t know what to make of it.
I found a blog about it that agrees with us:

Ahh wow thank you! I’ve been wondering for years whether it’s actually possible that someone could write an almost similar song as someone else at a different time in life. Maybe that’s what happened here, who knows?!
