Dreams and Visions (AOV 2/61)

We tried using this song some years ago but found it quite difficult – I still think it is a good song though.  The problem was the long gaps between words in the chorus and inventive phrasing I think.

The song was by Andrew Tanner of the band Seven Stories. You can hear a snippet at AOV here.

I put my backing to a Latin beat hoping it would help keep the intervals obvious.

Verse 1

As a dream receive your history

From the martyrs and the saints.

Let their story be your story,

Yours the laughter, yours the pain.

Chorus

We will rise, we will rise,

We will rise up on wings like eagles,

Run and not be tired.

Show us your dreams and visions,

Warm our hearts with tongues of fire,

Tongues of fire.

 Verse 2

Lord, we stumble in the darkness,

We cry for visions in these days.

Pour on us your living spirit,

In all ways, always.

Chorus

Verse 3

Jesus, save your nomad people,

Bring us face to face with you.

Start in us a new creation,

Christ be with us as we go.

Chorus

I agree, this is a fabulous song, I’ve always loved it but it is hard to sing and play. Thanks for this great version. It really helped us out today.

  2. Kerry David Beswick says:

This song still brings beautiful memories – such a great song.

  3. John Dohler says:

How can I find a digital recording of this song? It is stuck in my head but I can’t find it anywhere!

      G’Day John

My backing from 13 years ago is more than a bit scrappy listening to it again now.

Anyway, I found this about the song:
In 1984 Tanner composed a track, “Dreams and Visions”, which became a banner song for the Uniting Church’s National Christian Youth Convention in Adelaide in 1985.

Couldn’t find anything at the Uniting Church though.

The link in the post to the snippet at Willow is dead, but it is still there at this link:

Better yet, you can still purchase the MP3 of the song there if you want to.

The other approach I find useful when there is little sign of a track is to try and hunt down the song writer.

      Best of luck.

      Geoff
