Divine Praises

I am up to “D” in the new songs for Breaking Bread 2025 from OCP.

OK, this is chant, so I’m not making a backing. It is a traditional prayer from the 1700s that has been added to (by popes) over the years. It is used for Benediction.

It is set by Ross Caniglia.

I noticed OCP also have this setting, which is less chant and more country. This setting is by Sarah Hart and Josh Blakesley, with a refrain they have added. I have to say this particular text works better as chant – fitting the irregular line lengths and syllables into the regular meter is a stretch.
