Daniel 3: Glory and Praise for Ever BB 815

The last song not covered elsewhere on this blog that was added to Breaking Bread in 2017 is this song by Timothy R Smith.

This is a setting of the Daniel Canticle from the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity. The assemblies’ part is singable and the cantor’s part is, well, interesting. The 4/4; 5/8; 7/8 pattern will take some practice.

The sheet music can be purchased at OCP where the text is in their preview.

BIAB can’t do 5/8 then 7/8 in a 4/4 style, but it can do 4/4,2/4 which is a reasonable facsimile and the melody carries the rhythmic weirdness.

Not sure if you’ve seen the additions for the 2022 edition of Breaking Bread, but there are some very nice new songs included. Chris Brunelle has been releasing videos for each of the new titles and I’ve been enjoying his versions. I really like Sarah Hart’s new presentation of the gifts song, “Drawn to You,” as well as Chris de Silva’s “Love, Burn Bright” (one of three GIA titles making the cut after OCP dumped 10+ GIA titles by David Haas). I’ve also always loved the more traditional “Jesus, My Lord, My God, My All,” which was added to BB for 2022.
