Come, O Jesus, Come, O Lord CWB II 65

Continuing through the first volume of Catholic Worship Book II, there follow many selections from other mass settings.

Amongst these is this song ,whose antiphon is listed as a response for the prayer of the faithful in Advent. The text is by James McAuley with the tune NEWTOWN by Richard Connolly.

The whole text and tune (ie the verses as well) can be seen in the sample at As One Voice and the lyrics can be found at Small Church Music.

The sheet music can be purchased at AOV.

The full hymn can also be found in the original Catholic Worship Book (#658), the New Living Parish Hymnal (#46) amongst other hymnals. It’s an excellent, easy to sing hymn that works well for communion, particularly during the first three weeks of Advent. Having said that, the use of “man” in the verses probably doesn’t sit so well these days. I’ve used it for years and find it bizarre that it’s been repurposed for the Universal Prayer!

As an aside, I quite enjoyed your midi translation for this. I’m curious about how much of the arrangement comes automatically from Band in the Box, or did you give it the harmony? Also, the smallchurchmusic site includes Clyde’s organ and midi interpretations, probably in oversight, as his recordings of other copyrighted hymns were moved to mymidi.audio behind a paywall to legalise them.

Thanks for the other sources for this hymn.

The music file is the usual BIAB fudge. It is an old MIDI based BIAB strings style augmented with three extra tracks of variously sampled string realtracks (bowed bass, cello and viola) that sometimes throw up interesting harmonics. The melody is using a free VST string module pretending to be a violin. The random nature is part of the fun of Band in a Box.

I actually used Clyde’s chords for the backing and I suspect your are correct – with the hoard of files on his site he was always likely to miss a couple.

      cheers

      Geoff
